Why is it that way?

The rules surrounding Medicaid and public assistance pretty much ensure that working people lose all they have saved before they can get help, while those who have never worked enough to acquire any savings at all are helped right away.

In the past I thought that was an arrangement doubtless forced on the country by Republicans, and I am sure it has their favor in preference to everyone getting help right away and no one having to go broke first.

But now I think the left may favor it, as well.

And don't think the problem would be fixed by Medicare for all.

Medicare has huge lacunae that swallow up the savings of people who have any before Medicaid even thinks about stepping in to fill them.

This works enormously to the disadvantage of those retirees who worked hard and saved, but never had enough to really be safe.

And here again I think the left may join the right in favoring this situation.

The working class is hit hard in favor of the sub-proletariat.

And do you suppose that has an intentional racial angle?
