Blind only in one eye

Bruce Bawer wrote a book in which he defended the gay fantasy that the Bible itself does not inscribe the most fierce condemnation and punishment of gays in the Christian and Jewish religions.

But he sees the condemnations and injunctions to slaughter of gays in Islamic texts and traditions, just fine.

And he sees perfectly well that Islamic homophobia is by far more dangerous, physically as well as politically, than today's Christian variety, despite PC dogmatism and despite the news of that fellow from Indiana on his way to Santa Monica that I hope does not signal a trend.

Well, one sighted eye is better than none, I suppose, though seeing the threat of violent Islam and Islamic violence to Europe and America since the days of Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh has pushed him and his politics pretty far to the right.

The below linked anonymous post by someone who sees from both eyes is right in its premises and wrong in its practical conclusion.

The writer sees perfectly well the Christian foundations of gay-hating in America, but he also sees that Christianity has been disempowered over the decades and the homophobia it still inspires is much less widespread and much less virulent.

But a Trump presidency would not be better for gays, in net, anywhere in the world, than a presidency of Hillary because Trump would not be better at handling Jihaders or terrorists and would be much less interested in opposing homophobia on a global scale.

As to stemming the growth of Islamic violence against gays in America by restricting or ending Muslim immigration and even Muslim visits, who is to say anything much along those lines is still on The Duce's agenda or would actually be brought about, even by a Republican congress, given only the Buchananites are on board?

I'm a Gay Activist, and After Orlando, I Have Switched My Vote to Trump

Yes, there is a war between religious fundamentalism and the spirit of love and tolerance.

But we progressives here in America still labor under the delusion that the religion we need to combat is Christianity.

But that's a strawman opponent, and has been so for decades.

Since the 1990s, Christian extremists have essentially lost all their power, and are now toothless nonplayers in the "culture wars."

Meanwhile, Muslim extremists, with guns, murder us, and on the left our only response is to bleat about "Islamophobia" and jump through hoops trying to explain away the self-evident religious motivation for the killings.

Oh sure, all year I've been playing the "Bernie or Hillary?" game with all the other default-Democrats in my social and professional circles.

But this is no longer some kind of game.

Our lives are on the line.

Although I voted for Hillary in the primary, I now cringe inwardly with shame and embarrassment at having done so, and in November I will vote for Trump.

Why?

Yes, I know that Trump is an a**hole, Trump is a clown, Trump is a motormouth buffoon.

You don't have to convince me of that.

But he's also the only person saying anything about putting the brakes on Islamic extremism, and in light of what happened last night in Orlando, suddenly that is the only issue that really matters when it comes to the health, well-being and safety of the queer community.

. . . .

I also now realize, with brutal clarity, that in the progressive hierarchy of identity groups, Muslims are above gays.

Every pundit and politician -- and that includes President Obama and Hillary Clinton and half the talking heads on TV -- who today have said "We don't know what the shooter's motivation could possibly be!" have revealed to me their true priorities: appeasing Muslims is more important than defending the lives of gay people.

Every progressive who runs interference for Islamic murderers is complicit in those murders, and I can no longer be a part of that team.

And that last claim is a pretty hot talking point for the right, today.

The part of the right not much interested in the hopeless, reactionary cultural agenda of Christianists like Rod Dreher or David French, I suppose.

The Left Chose Islam Over Gays. Now 100 People Are Dead Or Maimed In Orlando.

A new twist.

Milo, a younger and more radical Bruce Bawer, has moved the goal posts.

Or he has appeared to do so because his idea of the scope of the conflict is different.

Hillary is talking about actual terrorism, actual Jihad, and the radical Islamic fundamentalism that wants to take over countries in the Middle East and nuke America, if at all possible.

Milo is talking about the sexual revolution of and in the West at war with the bronze age sexual ethos of nearly all Islamic nations and populations and even individuals, all over the world, visibly and undeniably written into the sacred texts and traditions of Islam that the Muslim world still takes with the utmost seriousness.

All the same, Hillary is more likely to aptly tweak American policy and American pressure to make not just America but, yes, the world safer for LGBT folks than the brainless Buchananite blowhard, The Donald.

Here's Milo.

Over 100 people have been killed or maimed at a gay dance club in Orlando by Omar Mateen, a Muslim terrorist.

How many more innocent gays need to die before we admit that America, and the world, has an Islam problem?

I don’t mean a “radical Islam” problem or an “extremist Islam problem.”

Violence is not the extreme in Islam any more: it’s the norm.

. . . .

America has to make a choice.

Does it want gay rights, women’s emancipation, and tolerance for people of all nonviolent faiths — or does it want Islam?

I hate to say I told you so, but I have been warning about this for years.

Here’s me in November expressing concern at mass Muslim immigration.

I followed the link and read the post.

So should you.

Omar Mateen wasn’t just a homophobe, by the way.

He was also a misogynist – a real one, not someone who offends feminists on Twitter – who repeatedly beat his ex-wife while they were married.

Of course, as we saw in Cologne six months ago, this sort of behaviour is also the norm in Muslim cultures.

Needless to say, the Left is silent on the subject.

A lot of people laughed at Donald Trump when he suggested a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country.

No doubt they thought he was further harming his chances in the general election.

No one is laughing now.

What’s more, I expect many are quietly wondering if the “temporary” ban might have to be permanent.

. . . .

The Christian Right may not be totally down with homos, and Trump may say things that hurt our delicate feelings, but they aren’t going to kill us or put us in camps.

Only Islam would do that — the same Islam that, bizarrely, now stands at the top of the left’s hierarchy of victimhood.

. . . .

Once again, this isn’t about “radical” Islam.

This isn’t a tiny fringe.

In Britain, a 2009 Gallup survey found that not one Muslim believed that homosexual acts were acceptable.

Not one!

And another poll this year revealed that over half of British Muslims believe gay sex should be illegal.

96 per cent of Palestinians believe that homosexuality is an unacceptable lifestyle choice, according to Pew Global data — making “Queers for Palestine” perhaps the dumbest movement since Semites for National Socialism.

. . . .

So, most Muslims think I’m unacceptable.

Fine.

I also think their religion is unacceptable.

And not just “radicals” and “extremists” — their entire, barbaric, backwards ideology.

100 million people live in Muslim countries where homosexuality is punishable by death.

We can’t go on like this.

We can’t live in an America where gays fear going to night clubs, where satirists fear execution for their speech, where cartoonists consider whether their next drawing might get them killed.

Today’s killings prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that we need to give particular scrutiny to certain faiths.

Gays, apostates, and women are tired of being abused, harassed, and murdered by followers of the “religion of peace.”

And politicians have to stop lying about the link between Islam and these horrific acts.

I think Frank Bruni is not ready to join Milo.

Still, it is absolutely true that O is still speaking of the incident in ways that shield Islam from blame, far more than Hillary.

Hillary just doesn't want to be at war with all the Muslims in the world.

That's one damn big, mostly sleeping dog.

For O it seems much more to stem from a genuine personal respect for Islam, no doubt in some measure going back to his childhood and to do with his ancestry.
