At Luke 19:11, we read that on the way to Jerusalem Jesus related a parable (verses 12-27) "because he was near Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately."
But the parable does not address that supposition and is one of those, both cryptic and cruel, that subvert liberal idealization of Jesus as a moral teacher, his message exclusively one of love, mercy, and forgiveness.
