Inexplicable America

Just watched somebody's elderly aunt prepare genuine Hungarian Goulash on You Tube.

It's an extravagantly rich soup with no roux, not a thick soup, using lard, onions, garlic, sweet peppers, tomatoes, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, cut up pork chops, spices including a lot of paprika, parsnip and celery greens, and small bits of Hungarian pasta made from eggs and flour but no water and no oil.

Not much like the American Chop Suey variant people in the US refer to as Goulash (sometimes American Goulash).

There are other recipes on You Tube using other meats than pork, but otherwise generally the same ingredients.
