The president has asked for more money to deal with this and the stupid Congress has refused.
Zika virus 'scarier than initially thought'
The mosquito-borne disease is a cause of microcephaly, according to the World Health Organization, but Schuchat said experts are now linking the virus to premature birth, eye problems and other neurological conditions in babies born to mothers who were infected while pregnant.
These concerns are no longer limited to exposure to the virus only during the first trimester.
There is reason to be concerned throughout the pregnancy.
Zika has been sexually transmitted in Texas, CDC confirms.
Schuchat also noted revised surveillance maps of the Zika-carrying mosquito, Aedes aegypti, released last month, showing that the insects could be more widespread than previously thought, reaching as far north as San Francisco and New York.
Fauci said researchers are on track with their goal to begin a clinical trial for a vaccine in September.
He also said his teams have screened 62 existing drugs as possible treatments.
Fifteen have been identified for further research, although he cautioned they may not pan out.
When this first popped up as an issue the smug blockheads at CDC said it would never reach the US at all.

Zika virus spreading explosively
The World Health Organisation has convened an emergency committee to discuss the “explosive” spread of the Zika virus, which has been linked to thousands of birth defects in Latin America.
“Last year the disease was detected in the Americas, where it is spreading explosively,” Margaret Chan, the WHO director general, said at a special briefing in Geneva.
It was “deeply concerning” that the virus had now been detected in 23 countries in the Americas, she added.
Between 3m and 4m cases of Zika can be expected, said Marcos Espinal, an infectious disease expert at the WHO’s Americas regional office, though he gave no time frame for these figures.
The spread of the virus has prompted governments across the world to advise pregnant women against going to the areas where it has been detected.
There is no vaccine or cure for Zika, which has been linked to microcephaly, a serious condition that can cause lifelong developmental problems.
Chan said: “The level of alarm is extremely high. Arrival of the virus in some cases has been associated with a steep increase in the birth of babies with abnormally small heads.”

Since September, Brazil has registered nearly 4,000 cases of babies with microcephaly.
