Bernie and his supporters would sure as heck question that, I think, if Joe was out before the convention anointed anyone.

Anybody might question that, given the GOP might well run better against a woman of color not so well known they can't paint her as a crazy radical, which they are already doing without too much trouble.

Interesting question which way AOC and the Squad would jump.

Of course, Bernie actually is a crazy radical, but he's an old and well known white guy as well as a crazy radical, and that's probably a better combination for white voters Trump needs in battleground states than a relatively little known woman of color.

Though if Bernie bumped her off the ticket that might cost him nearly all the black support he would absolutely have to have to win.

Fox News host baselessly claims that 'something's going to happen' to Joe Biden

She just went a little over the line, maybe, in course of playing her part in Fox's propaganda onslaught that Old Dodderin' and Sleepy Joe is just a Trojan horse for flaming, insane radical black woman nutjob Kamala Harris.

All of Fox's talking heads are fairly shouting it's really Trump vs Harris and Joe is at best a signature monkey for the craziest, darkest (heh, heh) elements of the "Democrat Party".

More of that by now infamous Republican projection, I'd say.

Claiming Joe will not even make it to election night is just making the prospect all the more terrifying, eh?

The Fox News opinion host Jeanine Pirro baselessly suggested on Wednesday evening that "something's going to happen" to the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Joe Biden, and that it would cause the former vice president to be removed from the ballot during the presidential election in November.

"For some reason, I just have this feeling that Joe Biden isn't going to be on the ticket," Pirro said during a Fox News segment.

"I have a sense that something's going to happen before the election and he's not even going to be on the ticket, so don't even ask me if he's going to make the four years," she added.

So far as I can tell, she actually is further to the left than Joe B, and she was that at the beginning of the campaign, at the end of the campaign, and in response to the Floyd killing, protests, and riots.

And as she so painfully and forcefully pointed out during the debates, she was and all but incontestably still is to his left of racial matters.

I am truly not sure where that puts her relative to registered Democrats or Democrat-leaning independents.

But she is definitely to the left of this guy, my very own Democratic Congressman, and apparently also to the left of my Democratic Senator.

The reasons for weaponizing division are not mysterious.

Perfectly true.

Throughout our history, racist language has been used to turn American against American in order to benefit the wealthy elite. 

True, sort of, but not the whole truth.

That isn't why Democrats and their allies use it, for example.

Nor does it explain why Democrats constantly accuse Republicans of racism and exaggerate the threat of such racism as there is.

Later, she writes,

The only way to push back is to be unequivocal about our values. 

It is not enough to condemn Mr. Trump’s racism. 

We must affirmatively confront racist policies — whether the caging of immigrant children at the border or the banning of Muslim immigrants . . . 

Have Muslim immigrants been banned?

. . . or the allowing of segregation in public housing.

Is that allowed?

She continues,

The consequences of this fight will not just be felt here at home but around the world. 

From the look of things, true, but not very much.

Right-wing nationalism in Hungary, Russia, France, Britain and elsewhere is on the march in ways not seen in decades. 

America has been a beacon of democratic ideals for the world. 

If we succumb to the fever of right-wing nationalism, it will have consequences far beyond our borders.

Have we not already succumbed?

What more does she fear by way of succumbing?

And what consequences beyond our borders?

Today, democracy is under attack once again. 

Where? Not in America, really.

It’s time to respond with the kind of conviction that has made America great before.

By doing what, does she think, besides electing Democrats, I wonder.

Certain to be labeled racist within seconds. Or Islamophobe. Or both.

Illinois GOP group shares meme depicting minority Dem congresswomen as 'the jihad squad'

Two top Illinois GOP officials are condemning a meme recently posted to the Facebook page of the Illinois Republican County Chairmen's Association that depicted four minority congresswomen as being "THE JIHAD SQUAD."

The image, which has since been taken down from the group's page, is modeled after an action movie poster and edited to include the four lawmakers' faces on the bodies of various characters. 

The women in the photo are Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. 

The image includes the words "THE JIHAD SQUAD" below the names along with the words "POLITICAL JIHAD IS THEIR GAME" and "IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH THEIR SOCIALIST IDEOLOGY, YOU'RE RACIST."

Voters saw indelible examples of this same behavior, and he won.

How Democrats Defeat Donald Trump

Stop hypothesizing about Democratic voters’ political priorities and policy appetites and look at the actual evidence of where Americans really are. 

That’s the 2018 midterms.

It may have minted young progressive superstars like the congresswomen in the squad, but they aren’t especially popular beyond their progressive fan clubs. 

More important, their victories had zilch to do with why or how Democrats regained control of Congress and have dubious relevance to how Democrats can do the same with the White House in 2020. 

The House members they replaced were Democrats, not Republicans, so their campaigns weren’t lessons in how to move voters from one party’s column to the other.

Other first-term House candidates’ bids did offer such lessons, so look harder at that crew. 

Lauren Underwood in the exurbs of Chicago, Xochitl Torres Small in southern New Mexico, Abigail Spanberger in the suburbs of Richmond, Va., and Antonio Delgado in upstate New York — these four defeated Republicans in districts where Trump had prevailed by four to 10 percentage points just two years earlier. 

None of them ran on the Green New Deal, single-payer health insurance, reparations or the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

They touted more restrained agendas. 

And they didn’t talk that much about Trump. 

They knew they didn’t need to. 

For voters offended by him, he’s his own negative ad, playing 24/7 on cable news.

Of the roughly 90 candidates on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s list of 2018 challengers with some hope of turning a red House district blue, just two made a big pitch for single-payer health care. 

Both lost. 

While first-time candidates endorsed by the progressive groups Justice Democrats or Our Revolution certainly won House elections last year, not one flipped a seat. 

The party did pick up 40 seats overall — just not with the most progressive candidates.

 Polling has shown that when voters are told that Medicare for all would mean an end to private insurance or an increase in taxes, support for it drops below 40 percent.

And according to a Politico/Morning Consult survey published a few days ago, 51 percent of voters support the sweeping raids by ICE that the president trumpets, while just 35 percent oppose them. 

That suggests that anything that smacks of open borders — which is how President Barack Obama’s secretary for homeland security, Jeh Johnson, described Democratic presidential candidates’ positions in a recent op-ed essay in The Washington Post — puts those candidates at odds with public opinion.

Nancy Pelosi knows this. 

It’s why she hasn’t been talking up the Green New Deal, single-payer insurance or impeachment, and the suggestion that this makes her some squishy centrist pushover — some musty relic from a timid era — is bunk. 

She has her eyes on the most meaningful prize, one she pursued successfully in the midterms: Democratic victory. 

And she can see that in an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll published a little over a week ago, just 21 percent of registered voters said that there was enough evidence for Congress to begin impeachment hearings.

I wonder what would happen if the Democratic nominee simply refused to talk about Trump. 

No responding to whatever stupid nickname he comes up with. 

No sweeping denunciation of some deed of his that any sensible American already knows is wrong. 

Just the articulation of better solutions to America’s problems. 

Trump would go mad with the lack of attention. 

And maybe then, thank heaven, he’d go away.

The moderate squad: swing-state Democrats wary of leftward path

The Gang of Four won in totally safe seats, seats that could have been won, as Nancy Pelosi said, by "a glass of water".

The hard work was done by center-left Democrats flipping seats that had gone to the GOP with the victory of Donald Trump in 2016.

And they are not happy with the large role assigned by the media to the party's left.

Of the 67 Democrats in the 2018 freshman class, roughly one-third are from districts Trump won in 2016.

At a gathering of centrist Democrats last month, Joe Cunningham of South Carolina and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia pleaded with more liberal members of the party to consider how their words might reverberate beyond New York, Detroit or Boston.

“Where we sometimes go wrong is if we allow each other to – or try to – speak for the entire caucus,” Spanberger said, suggesting members bracket comments with “in my district”.

Wexton says Virginia 10, a diverse and affluent district from the suburbs of Washington to the West Virginia border, is not interested in Trump’s outbursts or Democratic drama.

“People want us to do something about health insurance premiums and prescription drug prices, which we are working on,” she said. 

“I don’t hear about socialism. I don’t hear about the Squad.

Six days and nights of relentless attacks on the president charging racism

CNN and MSNBC online and on TV, The New York Times, The Guardian, and each and every last Democrat blog and news outlet, all have been roasting Trump with unrelenting charges of racism.

Apparently, not a lot else happening worthy of our attention.

And all of this in response to a series of Tweets lobbing pretty well-deserved attacks on the Gang of Four (the soi-disant Squad), charging them all with hatred of America and telling them all to "go back where you came from".

All but one are US born, but he either didn't realize or couldn't resist.

Not one word in the tweets was racist, though the dog-whistle was rather piercing ("What? You brown girls can't actually be real Americans, can you? You're kidding, right?").

Well, the racial joke, I suppose.

Is every racial joke racist? Is every Jewish joke predicated on anti-Semitism? Is every Polish joke somehow anti-Polish?

So hellish has been the fury of the left wing noise machine that, while only one or two GOPsters have endorsed these charges, the rest have been silent.

Not a lot of GOP support out there for the Duce, on this one.

Scott Jennings, a CNN contributor, is a former special assistant to President George W. Bush and a former campaign adviser to US Sen. Mitch McConnell. 

He is a partner at RunSwitch Public Relations in Louisville, Kentucky.

This is the lie.

No matter whom the Democrats nominate for president, the message and policies of The Squad will make up the heart of the nominee's platform.

Fewer than half the Dems seeking the nomination are close to them on policy, and Joe B (the most likely nominee, right now) is absolutely not.

And there is no reason to suppose that they will have more to say about the party's platform than the actual, eventual nominee.

Trump tweets racist attacks at progressive Democratic congresswomen

President Donald Trump used racist language on Sunday to attack progressive Democratic congresswomen, falsely implying they weren't natural-born American citizens.

Trump did not name who he was attacking in Sunday's tirade but earlier this week he referenced New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when the President was defending House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

We could ask how the author of this tirade knows who Trump was attacking, and hence how he knows they were native born, but what the heck.

The attack simply wasn't racist, though no doubt people whose animus toward the presumed targets, the soi-disant Squad, is racial were pleased with it.

Trump implied in the series of tweets that the congresswomen weren't born in America [one was not, and it might have been simply an error, given this president's high level of unconcern for facts] and sarcastically suggested, "they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."

Pelosi jumped to the defense of the congresswomen and condemned Trump's language. 

"When ⁦‪@realDonaldTrump⁩ tells four American Congresswomen to go back to their countries, he reaffirms his plan to "Make America Great Again" has always been about making America white again," Pelosi tweeted. 

"Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power."

New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray Luján, the assistant speaker of the House, echoed Pelosi's sentiments on Twitter Sunday: "A racist tweet from a racist president."

On "Fox News Sunday," Luján told Chris Wallace, "That's a racist tweet. Telling people to go back where they came from? These are American citizens elected by voters in the United States of America to serve in one of the most distinguished bodies in the US House of Representatives."

Update 07152019 1052 EDT

The Duce's attack was actually perfect from his point of view.

While not actually racist it was the loudest possible dog-whistle, which had three effects:

(1) pleasing lots of whites in and beyond his base, however faint or bright their stripes of racism,

(2) provoking furious charges of heinous racism from Democrats and woke types of whatever left persuasion, and

(3) salting the wounds of division between the Squad and their squaddie allies and supporters on the one side and the (relatively) centrist and moderate Democrats, whether officials or voters, on the other.

And this last, of course, is exactly the intention of his repeated public rises to the defense of Speaker Pelosi against the uppity insolence of the Gang of Four Foreigners Who Hate Our Country and, uh, white people.

A good weekend for Bozo, I'd say.

If Joe B falls over, withdraws for health reasons, or is bumped by the primary process, who among us is still confident the resulting Dem nominee will be able to deny the Duce his second term?

Americans so love to give presidents a second term, no matter how dreadful.

The same fight continues this morning, with Lindsey Graham, one of Bozo's least reliable senate supporters, chiming in.

Few Republicans have responded to Mr. Trump’s comments, widely seen as racist. 

On Monday, Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, encouraged Mr. Trump to “aim higher,” while also calling Ms. Ocasio-Cortez and the other three lawmakers communists.

“We all know that AOC and this crowd are a bunch of communists,” Mr. Graham said on Fox News. 

“They hate Israel, they hate our own country.” 

But he also pushed back against the president’s suggestion that the women are not American.

“They are American citizens,” he said. 

“They won an election. Take on their policies. The bottom line here is this is a diverse country. 

"Mr. President, you’re right about their policies. You’re right about where they will take the country. Just aim higher.”

When was Maureen Dowd last absolutely right? Yesterday.

Rahm Emanuel told me Chakrabarti is “a snot-nosed punk” who has no idea about the battle scars Pelosi bears from the liberal fights she has led.

“What votes did you get?” Emanuel said, rhetorically challenging A.O.C.’s chief of staff. “You should only be so lucky to learn from somebody like Nancy who has shown incredible courage and who has twice returned the Democratic Party to power.

“We fought for years to create the majorities to get a Democratic president elected and re-elected, and they’re going to dither it away. 

"They have not decided what’s more important: Do they want to beat Trump or do they want to clear the moderate and centrists out of the party? 

Thing is, they have decided.

And it's not what he wanted.

"You really think weakening the speaker is the right strategy to try to get rid of Donald Trump and everything he stands for?”

In the age of Trump, there is no more stupid proposition than that Nancy Pelosi is the problem. 

If A.O.C. and her Pygmalions and acolytes decide that burning down the House is more important than deposing Trump, they will be left with a racist backward president and the emotional satisfaction of their own purity.

That and, they hope, a Democratic Party more or less permanently moved significantly closer to their capitalism-hating, system-hating, white people hating, Western Civilization hating, children of Zinn views.

Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez 'should treat Nancy Pelosi with respect': Trump

President Donald Trump on Friday renewed attacks on freshman Democratic lawmakers Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar and came to the defense of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Trump lashed out at Ocasio-Cortez for her recent remarks responding to Pelosi's criticism of the "Squad" -- the group of four freshman including Ocasio-Cortex and Omar. 

She had said Pelosi was “singling out” Democratic women of color for criticism, calling it "disrespectful."

"I think Cortez is being very disrespectful to somebody who's been there a long time," Trump said to reporters as he left the White House for fundraisers in Wisconsin and Ohio. 

"I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her. 

"And you know what, I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on."

"But Cortez should treat Nancy Pelosi with respect,” Trump added. 

“She should not be doing what she’s doing. 

"And I’ll tell you something about Nancy Pelosi that you know better than I do. She is not a racist, okay. She is not a racist. For them to call her a racist is a disgrace."

Ocasio-Cortez told CNN Thursday that Pelosi is “absolutely” not a racist.

Phooey.

She played the race card against NP even more egregiously than KH did against Joe B.

The president was also critical of Omar saying that he doesn’t believe she should be in office.

“I'm looking at this Omar from Minnesota and If one-half of the things they're saying about her are true, she shouldn't be in office.”

By sticking up for her T makes NP's position more uncomfortable, to say the least, though he is in fact absolutely right.

But why?

Why is his defending her good for him and good for Republicans?

Disarray among congressional Democrats?

Making the Democrats' leadership in both houses less effective?

Heightening the visibility and power of a minority of Democrats whose loathing of "the system," of the republic, of the "deep state", of capitalism, and of the generality of white people is worn on their sleeves and utterly rejected by as close to all Republicans and Independents as makes no difference, and by most Democrats into the bargain?

Highlighting the insubordination and arrogance of a quartet of ignorant and completely inexperienced freshmen who demand that the far more experienced leadership, and indeed the majority of congressional Democrats, cave in and dance to their tune?

Helping enhance the role in the Democratic Party of people who know their agenda and their rhetoric and their legislative choices cannot win but are willing to lose and lose and lose, again, so long as they can take over the Democratic Party?

You really don't see why a Republican president might want to do these things?

Another squaddie in the news

If the eventual Democratic candidate lets any of these women join his or her campaign the right will easily boil him or her for it.

Especially if the eventual candidate is a known racial bombthrower, and especially if he or she is nonwhite.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley to Kellyanne Conway: 'Keep my name out of your lying mouth'

Fairly oozing racial, and definitely racist, resentment, she is.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley on Tuesday criticized Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, after Conway mocked bickering between Speaker Nancy Pelosi and four female freshman Democrats as a "major meow moment."

".@KellyannePolls oh hi Distraction Becky. Remember that time your boss tore babies from their mothers’ arms and threw them in cages?" Pressley, D-Mass., tweeted. "Yeah take a seat and keep my name out of your lying mouth."

Becky is a slang term that often refers to a basic or generic white woman.

More like a racist sneer white journos don't want to see for what it is.

Pressley was reacting to a tweet from Conway that said: "Major Meow Mashup with @SpeakerPelosi brushing back anti-humanitarian border aid fresh-women @AOC @IlhanMN @AyannaPressley @RashidaTlaib"

Note the Conway tweet referenced the gang of four sometimes called "The Squad".

Conway was a bit snarky by far less uncivil than AP, and in further contrast not at all racial or racist.

How will that play in the general?

Also-ran Beto sounding like the racial radicals among the Dems, not just the candidates but the party as a whole.

O'Rourke tells immigrants 'this country was founded on white supremacy'

Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) this week told a group of immigrants and refugees living in Nashville, Tenn., that the U.S. was founded on the concepts of white supremacy and slavery.

"I know this from my home state, Texas, places that formed the Confederacy, that this country was founded on white supremacy," he said, according to the Tennessean.

. . . .

He made the remarks in response to a question about how he would tackle white supremacy if elected president.

To which the best answer would have been that white supremacy in America is a long gone thing of the past, and what people are really complaining of who say otherwise is the fact that the majority of Americans are white.

And to that complaint the best answer, if not "pardon us for living", would have been "fuck you."

I suppose we could quibble a bit about the nuance of "founded on", but those were certainly features of the country at its founding.

So, no Pinocchios for that one.

But this is just inflammatory bullshit.

Or maybe a concession to the lying racism of the person who asked the question.

"And every single institution and structure that we have in this country still reflects the legacy of slavery and segregation and Jim Crow and suppression, even in our democracy."

Does his saying that, and to a batch of new immigrants and refugees, no less, show he hates our country?

Actually, I'm not sure what the hell it shows, though in his case I rather doubt it's that.

A lot of this year's Democrats talk like that, however, and maybe that is what it shows when they talk like that.

And, anyway, whose votes are they fishing for, with that kind of talk?

Is this that Tucker Carlson apparently said quite unfair?

All of it, or just parts of it?

TUCKER CARLSON (HOST): 

The Democratic candidates for president are on the road this week telling voters that the United States is an awful country. 

"America's institutions are built on white supremacy," squeaked Beto O'Rourke at an event yesterday. 

Of all the lies these people tell, and there are many, this is the most absurd.

Ilhan Omar has an awful lot to be grateful for, but she isn't grateful, not at all. 

After everything America has done for Omar and for her family, she hates this country more than ever.

In a recent piece in The Washington Post, the reporter put it this way, quote, 

"In Omar's version, America isn't the bighearted country that saved her from a brutal war and a bleak refugee camp. 

"It wasn't a meritocracy that helped her attend college or vaulted her into congress. 

"Instead, it was the country that had failed to live up to its founding ideals, a place that has disappointed her and so many immigrants, refugees, and minorities like her," end quote. 

If anything, that's an understatement.

Omar isn't disappointed in America, she's enraged by it. 

Virtually every public statement she makes accuses Americans of bigotry and racism. 

This is an immoral country, she says. 

She has undisguised contempt for the United States and for its people.

Ilhan Omar is living proof that the way we practice immigration has become dangerous to this country. 

A system designed to strengthen America is instead undermining it. 

Some of the very people we try hardest to help have come to hate us passionately.

These guys have chosen purity over possibility. And they clearly have no idea of respecting seniority.

By no means only on this one issue.

The Squad

Congressional approval for funds for the Trump administration to spend at the southern border has triggered open warfare between a “squad” of high-profile progressive House Democrats and party leaders they accuse of caving to a White House determined to mistreat migrant children.

Pelosi and most Democrats voted for it.

But it was close.

Ninety-five Democrats voted against Thursday afternoon's bill, while 129 supported it. 

Seven Republicans opposed the measure, with 176 in favor.

The Squaddies were by no means alone on the vote.

But they probably tweeted only for themselves.

The split became brutally evident late last month when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts – together known as “The Squad” – voted against when Pelosi moved to pass a Senate bill that provided $4.59bn in border security funding.

Responding on Twitter, Omar said: “A vote for Mitch McConnell’s border bill is a vote to keep kids in cages and terrorize immigrant communities.”

Tlaib declared: “If you see the Senate bill as an option, then you don’t believe in basic human rights.”

Ocasio-Cortez said: “Hell no. That’s an abdication of power.”

On Saturday, Pelosi responded in a New York Times interview, taking aim at The Squad for voting against “our bill”.

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” she said. 

“But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”

Referring, I think, to a different vote.

In a tweeted response, Ocasio-Cortez said: “That public ‘whatever’ is called public sentiment. And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country.” 

She also defended her use of social media.

The progressive-moderate split is becoming more evident and bitter.

“If the left doesn’t think I’m left enough, so be it,” Pelosi told the Times.

Referring to her long career and past defeats for progressive policy priorities, the speaker, 79, added: “As I say to these people, come to my basement. I have these signs about single-payer [healthcare] from 30 years ago.

“I understand what they’re saying. But we have a responsibility to get something done, which is different from advocacy. We have to have a solution, not just a Twitter fight.”

“Leadership is driven by fear,” Corbin Trent, a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez and a co-founder of Justice Democrats, told the Washington Post. 

“They seem to be unable to lead.”

“The greatest threat to mankind is the cowardice of the Democratic party,” Trent added.

Ocasio-Cortez told the Post fear of losing is beside the point for new party members.

“What’s important isn’t just winning but fighting,” she said. 

“I don’t care about losing in the short term, because we know we’re fighting for the long term.”

She is too young to appreciate that in the long run we are all just dead.

Politics is about a sequence of short runs that add up, together, to a longer run.

On Sunday, Tlaib disputed claims by acting homeland security secretary Kevin McAleenan that the additional funds are a way to get children out of CBP custody. 

But she soon turned her fire on Pelosi.

“It is very disappointing that the speaker would ever try to diminish our voices in so many ways,” she told ABC’s This Week.

Tlaib called on Pelosi to “honor the fact we are there, that 650,000 people are represented by each and every single one of us” and that “all of us have these experiences that I think have been missing in the halls of Congress. Honor that, respect that, put us at the table. Let’s come up with a solution together.”

She said she would not “support anything that is broken and that dehumanizes people”.

Pelosi, Tlaib said, should “uplift the women, especially the women of color, within your caucus … because I’ll tell you more people like us, more people like me that come out to vote, we win, all of us win.”

Just as I said: no respect for seniority.
