Strange bedfellows, indeed.
[Ammon] Bundy, who led the 2016 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, was arrested Tuesday in a committee room and charged with trespassing and resisting and obstructing officers.
. . . .
Lawmakers on Tuesday had to abandon a committee room when a crowd shouted down lawmakers and forced them out.
Bundy was later arrested in that room when he refused to leave.
Bundy and his supporters are opposed to proposed legislation the committee was considering that would shield businesses, schools and government entities from liability if someone caught COVID-19.
. . . .
Bundy, 44, is a supporter of Black Lives Matter, and he supports defunding police to limit what he said has become a police state.
CDC caves to Trump again
Larry Kudlow: Covid-19 is pretty much behind us, thanks to Trump.
One of President Donald Trump's top advisers referred to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the past tense Tuesday during the second night of the Republican National Convention, appearing to suggest that the worst was behind the US on a day it recorded more than 1,100 deaths from COVID-19.
Larry Kudlow, the director of the White House National Economic Council, touted the strong economy during the first three years of the Trump presidency before describing the recession caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
"Then came a once-in-100-year pandemic," he said.
"It was awful. Health and economic impacts were tragic. Hardship and heartbreak were everywhere. But presidential leadership came swiftly and effectively with an extraordinary rescue for health and safety to successfully fight the COVID virus."
Alternative facts
Trump's response to the virus has been undermined from the beginning by denial, lies, underfunding, delay, inaction, and shirking of responsibility. These have caused tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths so far, deaths that could and should have been prevented, and will cause perhaps hundreds of thousands before this is over.
Republican facts:
The response is agreed by medical authorities to have saved hundreds of thousands of lives so far and will save many more before this is over, compared with what would have happened if nothing had been done at all.

So, an actual nutcase arrested for civil disorder
Not just bipolar disorder, I'd say.
A tense two-hour standoff between police and a prominent activist at the center of recent protests outside Mayor Bill Peduto’s Point Breeze house ended peacefully near there Friday night when officers, a fellow activist and a lawyer were able to persuade Lorenzo Rulli to cease barricading in his car and surrender.
Mr. Rulli, 24, whose legal name is Shawn Lateff Green, was awaiting arraignment Saturday morning on three misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct and using a megaphone as an instrument of a crime, and three summary charges.
Police said he committed the crimes both during the standoff and over two previous hours -- all of which played out live on social media as the defendant streamed from his vehicle, even while driving.
. . . .
The affidavit said that for two hours officers and citizens had observed Mr. Rulli driving around the neighborhood “shouting vulgarities and racial slurs into his megaphone at the neighbors, the mayor and police” all the while broadcasting on social media.
“[Rulli] was exhibiting dangerous, unstable and schizophrenic behavior,” police said.
After being pulled over on a traffic stop — and despite being told he was under arrest — Mr. Rulli refused to leave his vehicle for nearly two hours.
Eventually, officers aided by attorney Paul Jubas and activist Brandi Fisher, who heads the Alliance for Police Accountability, were able to persuade him to surrender to police.
At Mr. Rulli’s request and with police permission, Mr. Jubas and Ms. Fisher accompanied him to the Allegheny County Jail for processing and arraignment.
. . . .
According to Detective Rosato’s three-page affidavit, the following occurred:
For the fourth consecutive day, Mr. Rulli showed up again in the 400 block of Hastings Street “and once again was driving up and down the street yelling profanities towards Mayor Peduto's home, as well as any and all neighbors that were within his view.”
At 6:07 p.m., Officer Alexa Siweckyj spotted Mr. Rulli who, using a megaphone, began shouting at her and pedestrians, including children, at one point going into a 20-minute expletive-filled tirade and “causing alarm, fear, annoyance and numerous calls into 911 for police action.”
Officer Siweckyj was relieved by Officer Shaun Freiss as Rulli drove off to the Point Brugge Cafe at 401 Hastings St. “apparently causing a young girl to begin crying and upsetting dinner patrons outside eating.”
Shortly thereafter, Rulli returned and parked behind Officer Freiss’ marked patrol vehicle and began blaring his horn continuously while shouting additional vulgarities and racial slurs through his megaphone.
“Several neighbors yelled at Officer Freiss to ‘Arrest him already!’”
Rulli blocked the roadway for a time and then continuously drove around the block simultaneously "live streaming" his actions via a phone mounted on the car’s dashboard, shouting through the megaphone and driving erratically and recklessly.
Officers eventually conducted a traffic stop.
During the the traffic stop, during which Mr. Rulli would only give his driver’s license and other paperwork to a supervisor, a large crowd began to gather as he continued to live stream the event, encouraging others to come to the scene and intervene.
Mr. Rulli was advised he was being placed under arrest for persistent disorderly conduct and other charges and was ordered multiple times to exit his vehicle, but he refused.
“Mr. [Rulli] continued to shout…’Get the [expletive] out of here,’ ‘[Expletive] you Cops!,’ and ‘You're here to kill mel’ He also shouted both to officers and into his live feed that ‘Police kill [n-word] and brown skinned people!’ and that he was going to die tonight.”
Detective Rosato said he and Officer Mescan “observed dangerous and possible bi-polar behavior from [Rulli], as he alternately shouted ‘[expletive] you cops, y'all gonna have to kill me before I get outta this car!’ followed by inconsolable sobbing and weeping.”
. . . .
“Most — if not all — actions described above were caught on either social media, city cameras, body-worn cameras, or in-dash police cameras, as every attempt will be made to preserve such evidence for court proceedings,” Detective Rosato concluded his affidavit.
Peduto implements police oversight in wake of recent protests
Fox reported this in an OMG tone. Biden would shut the country down to control the virus, if the experts said he should.
ABC Interviewer David Muir: What if you face a virus still spreading and a bad flu season?
Biden: We can't get the economy running again until we get the virus under control.
Muir: So, if the scientists say to get the virus under control we have to shut the country down?
Biden: If the scientists said we have to shut the country down to get the virus under control I would shut the country down. Yes.
[/Close paraphrase]
Biden to ABC's David Muir: 'I would shut [country] down' to prevent spread of COVID-19 if scientists recommended
Watch the video.
It's a while getting to it but Joe B is clear as a bell, sharp as a tack, articulate as you could wish.
An exceptionally vicious attack on his own health authorities.
This is a viciously crazy attack on his own chosen guy.
This is a new level of destructive attack on the credibility and integrity of the health authorities and researchers who are the best and best informed judges of how to get a safe and effective vaccine, as quickly as they can safely do that.
This is a new and dangerous attack as well on the integrity and credibility of what Republicans used to call "Big Government" but now instead more profoundly demonize as Pubic Enemy Number One, the "Deep State".
This is the Duce, the Champion Liar of White House History, subjecting his party and American politics ever more completely to the truth, science, and government wrecking conspiracy theory mentality.
All of a piece with his welcome of QAnon and his open love affair with the most lunatic of lying right wing fake news sources.
Trump accused the FDA of hindering coronavirus vaccine and drug trials so they would not be developed until after the election.
Trump wrote: "The deep state, or whoever, over at the FDA is making it very difficult for drug companies to get people in order to test the vaccines and therapeutics."
Trump uses the term "deep state" to describe those at government agencies he believes are working against his interests.
Trump added: "Obviously, they are hoping to delay the answer until after November 3rd," he wrote referring to the U.S. election date. "Must focus on speed, and saving lives," he added, tagging FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn.
Trump's suggestion that that research was being deliberately slowed to hurt him at the ballot box comes amid concerns that his administration might pressure the FDA to authorize a vaccine in time for the election, even if its safety and efficacy were not backed by clinical trials.
Trump has said a vaccine could be approved before November but Hahn has repeatedly said that would only happen if clinical trials proved it to be safe and effective.
FDA research chief Peter Marks also said this week that he would resign if an unsafe vaccine was rushed out, according to Reuters.
"I could not stand by and see something that was unsafe or ineffective that was being put through," Marks said.
At the same time, CNN reports a new report on chloroquine says it should never be used for treatment of the virus at all because it does no good and some cardiac harm, and no further studies on whether it could somehow be used should be done.
Have a great day at school
Schools and colleges that did open are closing and sports programs are being shut down right and left because of the virus.
Also, those same Republicans are resisting mandatory flu vaccination for school attendance.
We already know they will resist mandates concerning an eventual Coronavirus vaccine.
Apples and oranges
Twice on Fox I have heard GOP pols insist that if it's safe to wait on line at the grocery then it's safe to do so for in person voting.
When I shop there is never more than the person being rung up and one other ahead of me in line and there is almost always no one behind me.
And there is an express lane for people with 12 items or less that does move notably more quickly.
Almost always as I shop there is no one within ten or fifteen feet of me as I wheel my cart through the store, though I do now and then have to pass within two feet, very briefly, of another person.
Even in Mount Lebanon, Pa., and even mid-day, voting lines are longer, sometimes much, much longer.
At the grocery, everybody wears a mask but as many as a third, even of the employees, leave their noses exposed so they can breathe through them, thus wholly defeating the masks they wear.
Voting lines won't be better in that regard.
In many parts of the country voters stand waiting for hours with hundreds ahead and behind.
I guess the good news is they extend for blocks outdoors.
Clyburn and other major Democratic leaders blame the Duce for ALL American virus deaths.
If not, it won't be long.

CNN blasts out using the virus for race propaganda, again
And it is by no means as if only nonwhites in America are poor.
There are far more poor whites than nonwhites in this country, and this means they are in the same ways disproportionately victims of the virus, too.
This is certainly an argument for public action to ensure every American has good quality health insurance and everyone in America has good quality medical care.
Not a peep about that on any "news" network.
Not on Fox since it would put their idiot viewers on notice.
Not on CNN, MSNBC, or BBC because howling about race works so much better for today's Democrats and the Democratic racist/racial left.
An attack on America and an attack on white America.
To them, there is only one explanation and you know what it is, "systemic racism", "a history of racism", "the legacy of slavery, segregation, and racism".
These variables affect whether you live, die or get help during the pandemic
Weird sexist bit at the end about women, protecting families, and the virus.

We have over a thousand deaths a day in the US, now.
From the virus.
More than a half million cases counted. 5.25 million.
167,253 US deaths.
About a 2.3 % fatality rate, estimating the total infected are 1.4 times that case count.
How does the bug stack up, compared to other causes of death in the US?
The US has done far less than most to limit the bug.
But has the world overreacted?
The bug would have to kill nearly 7 hundred thousand a year to become the leading cause of death, ahead of cancer (600 K) and heart disease (650 K).
CDC has the data.
We could get there, if the vaccine takes longer than now hoped.
If 300,000,000 of us were infected at 2.3 % we would have 6.9 million virus dead to add to the deaths likely from all other causes in that time, given the CDC count for the year 2018 of 2.84 million a year.
Spread out over 3 years those 6.9 million would more than double the US annual dead for those years.
Not the Black Death, but still.

If this is happening here - and it is - what's happening in worse off parts of the world?
If you test positive you're supposed to quarantine for two weeks or until you test negative, whichever is longer.
And it is believed presymptomatic and asymptomatic people can spread this disease.
Actually, she seemed awkward and unprepared. She did not know her lines or read them well
Maybe not enough time reading over her prepared remarks and also not yet comfortable talking to an empty room as if it were full.
Rather like baseball players complaining it's weird playing in empty stadia.
Trump is not the only campaigner who misses the crowds.
Even Biden's energy level in an empty room isn't what it is when speaking to a real, enthusiastic, and responsive audience.
Kamala Harris just showed why Biden chose her as his running mate
Eh. Not so much, really.
The King of Chaos, again
Just as doing less testing does nothing to lower the actual number of cases but only suppresses and makes less accurate our count of cases.
Trump says he opposes funding USPS because of mail-in voting
President Donald Trump said Thursday that he opposes much-needed funding for the United States Postal Service because he doesn't want to see it used for mail-in voting this November.
Of course, we've no idea in general how much voter impersonation fraud there actually is, even ordinarily.
The Dems rightly point out there is not a lot of evidence of that sort of thing but, without voter ID, how would anybody really be able to rule it out?
And while Trump's motivation is to blunt a Democratic advantage he sees in facilitating mail in voting on a much bigger scale than ever before, he is right that it provides very different and maybe greater opportunities for fraud than in person voting.
If I were a Democrat, I would expect the worst and keep a sharp eye on the Republicans.
They have a known record of fraud in connection with mail-ins.
