The hatred of Caius Martius
Coriolanus.
Interestingly and well done.
A splendid soldier of Rome, Caius Martius defeats the Volsci at Corioles and earns the title Coriolanus.
His friends seek to make him Consul and the senate is all agog, but he loathes the plebs who claim "the people are the city", and they know it. Sent by his mother and the city's leaders to gain their suffrage he is easily provoked into revealing his burning hatred and scorn for them all. He is banished by them from the city.
Consumed with even greater loathing and proving the plebs right, out of hate he goes over to the Volsci and offers to lead them on to crush Rome. Their leader Aufidius accepts. He leads the Volsci toward Rome.
Rome panics and sends his erstwhile friends to persuade him to stop, but he won't. His mother, wife, and son come to beg and he refuses. His mother, furious, rages at him for his betrayal of his city, his friends, and of everyone who loves him. He relents and agrees to make peace between Rome and the Volsci.
At a ceremony in Rome, the Roman consul signs the peace deal for Rome and Cauis Martius, the traitor, the enemy of his homeland and his own family, signs for the Volsci.
But Aufidius is enraged at his betrayal of him and his city when faced by the tears of his mother, wife, and child and, when he returns to the Volsci from Rome, denies him even his title "Coriolanus", awarded, after all, by Rome for his earlier defeat of himself and his people.
Caius now vents his rage and contempt at Aufidius, his soldiers, and his state and is killed for it. His hatred has at last killed him.
The play is not about politics, intrinsically, but about hate.
It is about politics only extrinsically, so far as politics is how the principals, and chiefly Caius Martius, live out their hate.
So far as politics is made to be about hate.

Watched it for the nth time on Amazon streaming video last night.
The same battle being fought then against white supremacist, nationalist, racist terrorists who enjoyed widespread community support and political cover is still with us, today.
Even down to the denunciations of the press for printing lies, distortions, and "fake news" about the poor maligned South, Southerners, and especially organized racist killers and their official enablers and collaborators.

President Donald Trump suggested the possibility of an "injection" of disinfectant into a person infected with the coronavirus as a deterrent to the virus during his daily briefing Thursday.
Trump made the remark after Bill Bryan, who leads the Department of Homeland Security's science and technology division, gave a presentation on research his team has conducted that shows that the virus doesn't live as long in warmer and more humid temperatures.
Bryan said, "The virus dies quickest in sunlight," leaving Trump to wonder whether you could bring the light "inside the body."
"So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it's ultraviolet or just a very powerful light — and I think you said that hasn't been checked because of the testing," Trump said, speaking to Bryan during the briefing.
"And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you're going to test that, too."
He added: "I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that."
He didn't specify the kind of disinfectant.
I like to think of this as his Lysol moment.
Medical professionals, including Dr. Vin Gupta, a pulmonologist, global health policy expert and an NBC News and MSNBC contributor. were quick to challenge the president's "improper health messaging."
“This notion of injecting or ingesting any type of cleansing product into the body is irresponsible and it’s dangerous," said Gupta.
"It’s a common method that people utilize when they want to kill themselves."
The maker of Lysol also issued a statement warning against any internal use of the cleaning product.
The president has repeatedly touted unproven treatments during the daily briefings on COVID-19, the disease associated with the coronavirus.
For instance, he has touted hydroxychloroquine as a potential "game changer," but health officials have strongly cautioned against it.
Reports indicate no money is being wasted following up on the president's incredibly stupid suggestions.
Yet.
This abysmally ignorant man persists in wasting our time and even valuable research time and money on utter idiocies.
And his voters love him and remain true blue to this utter nullity.
Chauncey Gardner was better qualified, and apparently underwent exactly the same educational preparation for the job.

And that Peter O'Toole is in it, even in a absurd role.
Playing a martyred priest!
Liberals used to be for freedom of religion, and not only for freedom from it.
But not for many years, now.
Of course, it is not a surprise that so many critics panned it.
Remember The Passion, which was a really brilliant and moving film, and the reception it received from our contemporary liberal and Jewish critics?
In Mexico and elsewhere the cultural revolution against Christendom was quite forthright, violent, and frank, back in the day.
Coexistence, in that time, did not seem a viable option to enough of the population and the classe politique.
And the question is forced upon us.
How can we compare a society ruled by the traditional Christian sexual morality and one ruled instead by the post-Christian, liberal and libertarian alternative?
The latter, other things equal, would be much better for adults.
The former would be better for children, both born and unborn.
For openers.

Why would anyone make this movie?
Sounds pretty much like a right wing attack on liberals and their attitudes, though for days the rwnm has been spinning it as a product of liberal hatred of right wingers, defaming the latter.
But I guess Trump didn't see it that way.
Perhaps he would have preferred a film in which the roles of predator and prey were reversed.

The Hunt, a satirical film in which liberals hunt Trump supporters and kill them for sport, was due to be released on 27 September.
Marketing of the film had already been put on hold following the El Paso and Dayton shootings.
Universal said the decision was made after "thoughtful consideration."
The Hunt's storyline is intended to reflect the divided nature of US politics.
One trailer for the film was pulled by ESPN.
It was said to open with the sound resembling an emergency broadcast signal.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the liberal characters refer to their prey as "deplorables", a term used by Hillary Clinton to describe some of Mr Trump's fans in the run up too the 2016 elections.
Without naming the film, Mr Trump tweeted about an upcoming Hollywood release.
He said: "The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence and then try to blame others. They are the true racists and are very bad for our country!"
But I guess Trump didn't see it that way.

The limits of imagination
On AM Joy, Ms. Reid and the star of Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, loved the film's depiction of an Africa technologically advanced but apparently never colonized politically or culturally.
But this alternative history is no more plausible than an imagined united, democratic, and modern India participating extensively, as it does, in the contemporary intellectual, scientific, and technological civilization of the globe, that never went through a phase of British colonialism.
No more than Roman roads without the Roman Empire, or Hadrian's Wall without Hadrian.
