ISIS claims Sri Lanka Easter bombings

Suspicious that they waited two days to make the claim.

The death toll is now over 300.

Isis claims Easter attacks

Subtitle: Bombings that killed more than 320 people have hallmarks of Isis, say security experts

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka that killed more than 320 people, the group’s Amaq news agency has said, with experts saying the attacks bear the hallmarks of the group.

It is the deadliest overseas operation claimed by Isis since it proclaimed its “caliphate” almost five years ago, and would suggest it retains the ability to launch devastating strikes around the world despite multiple defeats in the Middle East.

The group published a statement saying its “fighters” were responsible for the attack and listing the names of the suicide bombers, who were also shown in a video swearing allegiance.

Experts said that although Isis had made false claims of responsibility in the past, it appeared likely that its involvement in the suicide bombings of three churches and three luxury hotels on Sunday would be confirmed by ongoing investigations.

. . . .

Earlier, Sri Lanka’s defence minister, Ruwan Wijewardene, said the attacks had been a response to the recent mass shooting of Muslim worshippers in Christchurch in New Zealand.

“The preliminary investigations have revealed that what happened in Sri Lanka was in retaliation for the attack against Muslims in Christchurch,” Wijewardene told a special sitting of parliament, referring to the terrorist attack by a white supremacist in March in which 50 people were killed.

The minister did not present any evidence for his claim.

Stochastic terrorism

It seems most sites offering to define the term agree with this definition.

Stochastic terrorism is the use of mass communications to incite random actors to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable.

That makes ISIS, Trump, and others who intentionally incite violence stochastic terrorists.

And, yes, I just said the Duce's incitements are intentional and so, of course, literally criminal.

A high crime or maybe a misdemeanor?

Anyway, Juan Cole seems to be thinking differently of the expression.

New Zealand: Is Trumpism now replacing ISIL as a major Cause of Stochastic Terrorism?

One of the tactics of the so-called “Islamic State group” or ISIL had been to put out calls on the internet and social media for people to engage in random acts of violence.

. . . .

Some have called this random, one-off violence, which is almost impossible to forestall, “stochastic” terrorism.

This makes Trump and the others inciters and the actual killers the perpetrators of stochastic terrorism.

And maybe Susie Madrak sees it that way, too, though she is not explicit about the incitement being intentional.

Maybe she doesn't think it is?

It's refreshing when cable news people do their job, and it's sad that I have to say that.

But CNN's New Day did an excellent job this morning, discussing the connection between Trump's violent rhetoric and resulting violence -- stochastic terrorism.

(I wish they'd start using the term.)

Last night, I read the Christchurch shooter's 30+ page manifesto.

He cited Trump and anti-Muslim right-wing extremist Candace Owens.

He said he hoped this would cause American liberals to abolish the 2nd Amendment, and cause a "civil war in the U.S.

There is no doubt that radicalized individuals around the world are looking to Trump for inspiration.

So we watch as the Republicans protect this man, and we will remember.

Australian senator blames the victims

Fraser Anning blames NZ attacks on 'Muslim immigration'

Senator Fraser Anning has faced criticism from across the political spectrum for his comments on Friday's mosque attacks in New Zealand

As the death toll rose to 49, the Queensland senator said the "real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place".

"Whilst this kind of violent vigilantism can never be justified, what it highlights is the growing fear within our community, both in Australia and New Zealand, of the increasing Muslim presence," he said in a statement.

White nationalist terrorism in New Zealand

New Zealand Shooting Live Updates: 49 Are Dead After 2 Mosques Are Hit

Forty-nine people were killed in shootings at two mosques in central Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday, in a terrorist attack that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described as “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.”

4 people in custody, one charged with murder.

They were unknown to NZ and Aussie police.

Reporters on CNN are saying they watched some or all of the 17 minute video made by the killer, a video of his killing spree, posted on social media.

Why?

Before the shooting, someone appearing to be the gunman posted links to a white-nationalist manifesto on Twitter and 8chan, an online forum known for extremist right-wing discussions.

The 8chan post included a link to what appeared to be the gunman’s Facebook page, where he said he would also broadcast live video of the attack.

The Twitter posts showed weapons covered in the names of past military generals and men who have recently carried out mass shootings.

In his manifesto, he identified himself as a 28-year-old man born in Australia and listed his white nationalist heroes.

Writing that he had purposely used guns to stir discord in the United States over the Second Amendment’s provision on the right to bear arms, he also declared himself a fascist.

“For once, the person that will be called a fascist, is an actual fascist,” he wrote.

Bozo, Breitbart, and white nationalist terrorists.

Heard just now on CNN, Steve Bannon at Breitbart urges people to read "Camp of the Saints", as Pat Buchanan used often to do.

I once tried to read it but I could not get through it.

A racist nightmare dripping with hate.
