Marry in haste . . . .

It was an old saw, particularly but not only among Catholics, in the days when divorce was impossible for those living in many US states who could not afford to fly to Las Vegas or to Mexico - that is, for all but the rich - , and possible in some states only if somebody was willing to take the fall as someone's partner in criminal and shameful adultery.

That is, when I was a child in Massachusetts.

"Marry in haste, repent at leisure."

That a Tory PM could have allowed so momentous a decision to be made by a simple majority in a single plebiscite remains utterly unforgiveable and utterly incomprehensible.

And this though he personally opposed leaving the EU.
