Dark horizon

Nobody sees a path to a better deal, not even Bibi.

Nobody sees war leading to a better deal except those who, with boundless and groundless optimism, think we can defeat Iran utterly.

But war can stave off the dreaded day when a strong and arrogant Iran has its own Bomb.

And war might be avoided even if the alternative to the deal is imposition of worse sanctions, covert actions, assassinations, sabotage, and once in a while a good bombing run to destroy facilities.

Even that looks better than this deal to Bibi.

But our own classe politique ought to have a different view.

It is easy to understand Bibi would be happier if the US got itself blown up fighting Israel's battles than if Israel was destroyed.

But that is not the outlook most of us Americans would hope for in the American leadership.

How can Republicans outdo themselves on Iran?
