It matters who writes your constitution


One crucial function of a written constitution is to limit democracy and prevent officials who depend on votes offending key elite values or interests.

The same could be said for the function of interpreting it.

A BBC story this morning says the constitution of very, very Catholic El Salvador guarantees human rights to all from the moment of conception.

No abortions,  ever,  for anything.
