When right wingers dust off the "think pieces" sitting on top of their file cabinets and run defenses of their most ridiculous efforts to rig the system even more in favor of the rich and mighty.
Like repealing the 17th Amendment.
Justin Haskins (who?) joins George Will and many others on the Team for Plutocracy.
How the 17th Amendment is destroying America
To the men with the biggest moneybags, whose riches are enabled by an economic system based on and creative of inequality and the permanent gap between those who have far more than any human could ever sanely want and those who have nothing, the people are scary.
Democracy is scary.
Also Big Government - government big enough and strong enough to regulate giant and powerful corporations for the public good - is tyrannical, insane, and un-American.
The national debt is bigger than it was in 1915, OMG.
The people have demanded and gotten social programs, and that those programs be protected and paid for.
State sovereignty has much eroded.
The people are destroying America!
As for Haskins' risible (truly LOL) complaint that the people vote their narrow economic interests, thus corrupting politics, while the well-born and moneyed think only of the public good, the exact opposite it true.
As I said, it's the silly season.
