Who knew Corbyn was so funny?

In the 1983 election, the last time Labour flirted with serious socialism, its manifesto (platform) was described as “the longest suicide note in history,” and a party activist advocated “no compromise with the electorate.”
The electorate was not amused, and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher continued residing at 10 Downing Street.
That year, Corbyn was elected to the House of Commons.
He spent his next 32 years opposing the monarchy; writing columns for a Communist newspaper; expressing admiration for Hugo Chavez, whose socialism propelled Venezuela toward today’s chaos; proposing that taxpayers should be permitted to opt out of paying for Britain’s army; advocating that Britain leave NATO and unilaterally scrap its nuclear deterrent; blaming NATO, meaning the United States, for Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine; calling the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah “friends”; appearing with and funding Holocaust deniers and other anti-Semites; criticizing China’s Communist regime for deviationism in accepting some free markets; demanding that Tony Blair, the only Labour leader since 1976 to win a general election (three of them), be tried as a war criminal (for supporting the Iraq War); praising Iraqi insurgents killing Americans; and calling the killing of Osama bin Laden a “tragedy.”
Along the way, Corbyn got divorced because his wife insisted on sending their eldest son to a selective school whose admissions policy recognized merit.
Terrific abuse of the semicolon, which is not actually a mere bullet.

Trump is apparently thinking about this judge in the same way liberals encourage blacks to think about white juries or feminists encourage women to think about male Supreme Court justices.
Not allowed.
Only whites and males can and should be accused and even convicted of bias, and their resentment of such rules as well as refusal to be bound by them are always to be further damned.
Some people on the right are talking sense, but according to the anti-Trump propaganda of the left that has all but universally infected the mass media, his now repeated accusations of bias against him for his advocacy of the Wall by that Mexican-American judge are racist.
As was said to be his commercial showing him enjoying some sort of Mexican fast food thing, you will recall.
Come to that, as is anything he says or does, and anything he advocates, but most especially his opposition to immigration and his hostile characterization of illegals, eleven million of whom he still says he will deport.
That would be the same left that says blaming Islamic radicalism at least in part on, well, Islam and the violence of its chief sacred text, the Koran, is racism.
As is concern that Muslims entering the country pose in some measure a unique threat to others.
If he eats blintzes for a campaign ad to be shown in New York, will that be racist, too, or just anti-Semitic?
What about pierogies on Polish Hill?
Hibachi shrimp?
God forbid he kisses a baby.
Of course, the man does love to grab a headline exactly by stepping on PC toes.

One of the only things that make him look good is his total refusal to collapse under the weight of the endless, horrific race-baiting directed against him.
And his nearly total refusal to bow before the whole war on women thing.
Both of those streams of constant accusation go far to cement his white and male supporters' identification with and loyalty to him, as he endures so vast and unrelenting an onslaught of exactly the same unjust shitstorm they suffer all the time at the hands of the PC-whipped American media.
My Republican relatives are annoying because of the endless Republican class war against me.
My Democratic relatives are annoying because of the endless Democratic race and sex war against me.
What's a fellow to do?

Clinton said that in 2008, some supporters urged her to battle Barack Obama to the convention but noted that she decided to cede to Obama rather than fight because they shared similar policy goals and values.
When this year’s primary season largely ends Tuesday, she said, “I expect Senator Sanders to do the same.”
But she and Bernie do not share the same policy goals and values - or anyway not to the same extent as she and the president.
And certainly not to the same extent as she and Joe Biden, who some people still hope - foolishly, I think - the convention will select if Hillary's legal problems become too shaky before then.
Just consider the hostility of his rhetoric and of his lefty supporters, now looking with favor at Jill Stein, who actually equate Hillary and Il Duce.
Or of his other supporters who say if he's out they'll support Trump.
In a separate interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Clinton added, “I think given where we are in this race, that I will have not only more than a three million vote margin, but I will have a significant majority of pledged delegates by the close of voting on Tuesday.”
Sanders, though, has given no indication he intends to clear Clinton’s path this week.

Too much the hawk
Bernie is right that Hillary is too much a hawk, but he is now sounding way too much like a splitter, whenever he is asked what his supporters should do if he is not nominated - as he will not be unless she is indicted, and maybe not then, either.
But she is right that terrorists or those so close to them as makes no difference cannot be allowed to control their own state, that the US cannot walk away from its existing alliances, and that the spread of nukes is to be avoided.
I am not sure Bernie appreciates these points.
How many of his supporters would agree with him, if he did?
All the same, he did the right thing on a radio interview today, denouncing the violence of his fans at Trump rallies.

Great Hillary speech
Yes, it was substantive and, yes, it was political.
It was a strong defense of internationalism and a warning of the perils of Il Duce's America First Buchananism, both implicitly and explicitly rejecting the core isolationist idea shared by paleocons and libertarians alike that American commitment to collective security is some sort of unnecessary global altruism.
Later today, Trump spoke at a rally, and outside people carrying signs equating Hillary and Trump as stooges for corporate America and calling for socialism and political revolution physically attacked and severely beat several Trump supporters.
Actual Democrats thought it was a great speech.
Josh Marshall of course blames Trump, but you might as well blame him for Occupy, for the Baltimore riots, and for Seattle.
Look at the signs those clowns are carrying.
Not the Mexican flags, the signs about socialism, the signs equating Hillary and Trump as tools of Korporate Amerika.
They are the blockheads who truly share Bernie's own explicit views on our corporate, capitalist, rigged system so desperately in need of political revolution and socialism.
These are the clowns he pals around with.

Outrage after Duterte justifies Philippine journalists' murders
An outstanding example of what democracy can produce, even more so than Il Duce, himself.
Media groups expressed outrage Wednesday at Philippine president-elect Rodrigo Duterte's endorsement of killing corrupt journalists, warning his comments could incite more murders in a nation already one of the world's most dangerous for reporters.
Duterte, who won last month's elections in a landslide after pledging to kill tens of thousands of criminals, told reporters on Tuesday there was justification for killing journalists who took bribes or engaged in other corrupt activities.
"Just because you're a journalist you are not exempted from assassination, if you're a son of a bitch," Duterte said when asked how he would address the problem of media killings in the Philippines after a reporter was shot dead in Manila last week.
An outstanding example of what democracy can produce, even more so than Il Duce, himself.

Romney and a whole parade of others have refused the role, urged upon them by Bill Kristol.
David French is a well-known conservative writer at The National Review with zero executive experience who has never held any public office.
That equates to a complete no-name, nobody candidate for the presidency.
The rumors are a trial balloon.
He will decide whether to run in the next couple of days.
Who Is David French and Is He Running For President?
A spokesperson this morning said he does not want to be a spoiler, a "Ralph Nader of the right."
No problem.
To be a spoiler he would have to get votes.
If this write-up by Steve M. is a fair indication, French is a deep-dyed cultural reactionary who wants to undo the sexual revolution all the way back to Griswold, the decision in which the liberal fiction of a constitutional right to privacy was first embedded in America law by William O. Douglas, for the immediate and long-range purpose of disallowing state regulation of private, consensual sexual conduct.
In that particular case the issue was a Connecticut state law prohibiting doctors from advising patients on the use of contraceptives.
He and other such conservatives to whom he would appeal are certainly not going to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson.
This would be the Rod Dreher vote, and the thing is that Dreher knows perhaps better than any other conservative just how completely dead in the Western World the Christian sexual ethos really is.
The percentage of US voters who, fully informed, would actually support a restoration of full-scale, pre-Griswold American clericalism has got to be in the lower single digits.
A quick lesson in why French is not on board for Trump.
