Muslim life, today

50 killed in Florida gay nightclub shooting

Journos are being stupid, demanding in outrage how this could happen, wasn't the guy on some kind of watch list, and if so how could he go armed to a club and do this, blah, blah, blah.

It's just a guess, but I would suppose being on a watch list does not mean cops in teams of five are following you around twenty-four hours a day, every day of your life.

Freaked out local police, facing journos making these stupid demands, complain they don't get enough federal assistance.

Encouraged by airheads in the media, Americans react very badly to high profile violence.

Says the story,

The shooter, Omar Saddiqui Mateen, is 29 and from Fort Pierce, about 120 miles southeast of Orlando, two law enforcement officials told CNN.

He had been trained as a security guard, CNN has learned.

Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror.

The FBI is involved.

While investigators are exploring all angles, they "have suggestions the individual has leanings towards (Islamic terrorism), but right now we can't say definitely," said Ron Hopper, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Orlando bureau.

Looks to me like folks are abusing the t-word.

TV newsies are talking about some sort of evidence the Muslim shooter was angered at the freedom with which gays do their gay bar thing, which supports the hate crime theory.

It's not terrorism if the point was only to punish or deter undesired private conduct - sinful conduct an outrage to Allah, as it might have been in this case.

A hate crime, yes, and religious vigilantism much like the behavior of young Muslim thugs who assault women in the streets for not being properly dressed in some parts of the world.

Seems the fellow used an AR-15 and a couple of other weapons.

The police have the weapons but though people who know nothing about guns are explaining to TV audiences the AR-15 is an assault weapon that just sprays out death like water out of a hose nobody who actually knows what he's talking about has said the rifle, legally sold as a semi-automatic, had been illegally modified to fire fully automatically.

Does sound that way, but maybe not.

Update.

Even if ISIS encouraged or called for it, that doesn't make it terrorism, sensu strictu.

This story supports - to a degree - a somewhat remote ISIS connection, but also and more definitely the religious vigilantism/hate crime theory.

The shooter was born in America to Afghan Muslim parents, it turns out.

Imam Speaking in Orlando Said Gays Must Be Killed Out of 'Compassion'

The count is up to more than 50 dead and more than 100 wounded.

So why is Trump wrong, again, about a moratorium on Muslims entering the country?

The point would be to keep down the size of a group (Muslims, immigrants or born here) that predictably produces more than its share of horrific violence and far more people devoted to very undesirable religion-based cultural and political ideals.

Sure, it would annoy Muslims, globally, though many might well understand and not blame us at all for trying to keep their craziness out.

And Muslims, globally, are pretty annoyed with us, anyway.

They are way too easy to annoy.

And despite what O and Hillary say, it's much less a case of us needing them in our global war on terror than a case of them needing us in their domestic and regional wars on terror.

The principal targets of Jihaders and Muslim terrorists are other Muslims and the governments of Muslim countries, which Jihaders aim to take over or control through force and terror.

The headlines around the world prove that every single day.

But as Muslims become more numerous in the US stories like this one about Orlando are going to become more numerous, also.

And there would be this sort of thing to look forward to.

Inside Bangladesh’s killing fields: bloggers and outsiders targeted by fanatics

Update.

President Obama on Orlando Massacre: "An Act of Terror and an Act of Hate"

His description of goings-on at what billed itself as "the hottest gay bar in Orlando" is appropriate for your 8 year old children, I think.

This is an especially heart breaking day for our friends and fellow Americans who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

The shooter targeted a nightclub where people came together to be with friends, to dance, sing and live.

The place where they were attacked was more than a nightclub.

It's a place of solidarity and empowerment where people have come together to raise awareness and speak their minds and advocate for their civil rights.

This is a reminder that attacks on any American, regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation is an attack on all of us and on the fundamental values of integrity and dignity that help us as a country.

Update, 3:50 pm.

ISIS now says he was their guy and this was them attacking us.
