Defense Calls Woman’s Account of Rape by Detectives ‘Patently False’
Absent determinative physical evidence, "he said/she said" brings it down to intrinsic credibility of the story and credibility of testimony on the stand.
Sure, it can support a pretty firm decision of more likely guilty than not.
But can it ever rise, all by itself, to showing the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt?
I don't actually see that.
A history can raise the likelihood of guilt, as can the sheer number of accusers alleging separate incidents.
But that's not there, in this case, neither any alleged history nor multiple accusations against the same people.
Frankly, I see it as a tossup.
I would vote to acquit.
