Biden predicts military will intervene if Trump refuses to accept election loss
He actually did say that. Very odd.
Biden, speaking to the Daily Show’s Trevor Noah, said that his single greatest concern is that the president will “try to steal this election”.
. . . .
Biden told Noah that he has thought about a scenario where Trump would refuse to relinquish power after losing the election but said he was confident top military figures would intervene.
“I am absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” Biden said.
What case are we considering?
Biden wins more than 270 Electors and there are no faithless Electors, or not enough to deny him his 270, so then the president of the senate officially says Biden is the winner, and then the chief justice swears him in, but all the while Trump is on the floor in the oval office, screaming at the top of his lungs and kicking and fussing like a five year old?
So then everybody but Trump accepts Biden and the entire government acts accordingly, so Trump is now admitted by everybody to be just a ridiculous trespasser, a squatter who won't leave the White House?
Send in a sheriff to evict him.
But coups don't happen that way, do they?
Wouldn't Trumpists interfere earlier in the process, beginning perhaps with phony vote counts in key states and continuing, perhaps, with Democratic electors defecting to Trump?
Might the senate deny the validity of some of the electors' votes for Biden?
Might the Supremes intervene in some way as they did in 2000, giving the state of Florida to Bush fils?
Might the chief justice refuse to administer the oath (his participation is not actually necessary, though the taking of the oath is necessary, constitutionally)?
And wouldn't all of that be moot, anyway, if enough of the military chose to side with Trump and started arresting or shooting government officials who did not accept his continued rule?
How does this happen without a military dictatorship coming to power?
Why would any military want him to head up a military dictatorship?
Why would any American military prefer that to a Joe Biden presidency?
Certainly it would be a mess if any significant pieces of the government chose to continue to follow Trump.
Or to make any of the moves above described.
Yet I do not expect Trump, the White House, or his supporters, or any Republican to come forward to assure Americans that nothing of the sort is going to happen, that the election will be legitimate, and that the winner will retain or assume office in the absolutely usual and lawful and peaceable way he always has.
