Ellsberg was not my hero, either.
And life in prison would not be too much.
The example is very, very important.
Kaplan writes – a liberal stickler for the text and a very
narrow reading, when it suits – the following.
“Treason against the
United States shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to
their Enemies, giving them Aid or Comfort.” . . . .
Whatever Snowden
may have done, whatever damage he may have caused, he did not do this.
Oh, he most certainly did.
Surely, China is an enemy as is, in large measure, still,
Russia, as Kaplan amply documents.
What is adhering?
Fleeing to them for safety, perhaps, having dealt America a
blow that could only have lent them and other enemies significant aid and
comfort?
Greenwald also belongs in prison, along with his chums at
The Guardian.
