The Western press fully supports the policy of the Western powers, forcing regime change in Syria from the anti-Israeli and anti-al-Qaeda Assad to the anti-Israeli and pro al-Qaeda rebels.
For this absurdity, the American government puts American treasure and American lives at risk, as a liberal president advances the policy aims both of the neoconservatives and of their sworn enemies.
Remember George Bush and the "Axis of Evil"?
Remember George Bush and the GWOT, the neoconservative war to the death against al-Qaeda and its nation-state allies of whom we are now the mightiest?
The war Obama insisted was not stupid?
We are expending enormous, costly, and bloody effort all over the region for a policy of the most unspeakable and senseless idiocy.
How's that for exceptionalism?
A libertarian named Brown once argued against government that it does not and cannot consistently pursue any object, instead delivering a plethora of incoherent half-measures aimed at quite different purposes, often at cross-purposes, and so never capable of success.
But the complaint is more accurate and the argument more telling against foreign meddling, which we can do without, than against government, which we cannot do without.
IMHO.
