BLM protesters topple statue of Bristol slave trader Edward Colston
Nobody erected statues of Washington or Jefferson because they were slave owners.
People did put up statues of Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee because they committed treason and fought a terrible war to preserve slavery.
And it looks like people put up a statue of this guy to celebrate him as a very successful big time slave trader.
In Britain in 1895.
But maybe not.
But at best he seems to have been celebrated for using the money he made at least in part in the slave trade to relieve the sufferings of some white people in his part of the country.
At least as bad as some on the left defending drug cartels - remember Pablo Escobar? - because they provide employment and even charitable aid for the low and desperate among their countrymen.
