The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is deplorably profane, which I suppose many think makes it authentic (what?) and gritty.
I found it unreadable.
Ulysses, which I have dutifully tried to get through four times, has always become intolerable to me about half way through, by which time it has already been too often almost, and even too often exactly, pure gibberish for pages on end.
Naked Lunch is unreadable for profanity but also for, to some extent, unintelligibility.
