More than ever
Meanwhile the second study revealed that 40% of American women and 35% of American men are obese.
. . . .
The second study, published in Tuesday’s “The Journal of the American Medical Association” and based on data from 2013 and 2014, found that almost twice as many women as men are extremely obese; 9.9% of women and 5.2% of men.
People are considered obese if they have a Body Mass Index of 30 or more, and extremely obese if their number is 40 or more.
For example, a 6-foot person weighing 295 pounds with a BMI of 40 is considered extremely obese, but at 221 pounds would have a BMI of 30, which is obese.
The calculations do not differentiate for men and women.
Researchers based findings on data culled from 2,638 men and 2,817 women collected by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Given that there were no significant differences in age, race or ethnicity of those studied between the last study in 2005 and this, scientists had no answers as to why this is happening.
