Sanders Defends His Single Payer Health Care Proposal But Questions Linger
People are seeing the practical problems of getting it through, the problems of transition, and the problems of finance.
But they are not seeing the problems associated with creation of a government controlled monopoly, or something so close to it as to make no difference.
And that is because too many of the supporters of this idea - Bernie and his supporters - really are socialists and just don't see anything good to say about markets, competition, widespread dispersal of the powers of ownership into private hands - in a word, capitalism.
And that is why they can urge that employer group health plans are part of the problem rather than a crucial and indispensable element of the solution.
