Only an intellectual could be this stupid

The idea that romantic love is an invention of the West, of Western literature, or of late medieval Western literature, and hence so is anything to do with it including lovers' suicides, is so astonishingly obtuse that only a very smart idiot could believe it.

And droves of such idiots could believe it.
