The communications revolution

Geezers like me remember the days when there were only broadcast AM radio and three networks, and so three local stations, of broadcast TV.

Nobody broadcast 24/7 drastically slanted news, nobody broadcast 24/7 fake science about aliens, pyramids, and ESP, nobody broadcast constant large doses of fake news and fake history.

Maybe only because nobody could.

And then there was cable.

And then there was the Internet.

And it seems like more than half the content, and more than half the content providers, now available are 24/7 bullshit.

Xfinity (Comcast) is advertising its latest offender, the Gaia network, with teasers about alien mummies in Peru.

It may be an illusion, but it sometimes seems that the vast wasteland, though dominated by Christianity's radical social and sexual conservatism, was nowhere near as truth toxic as this.

There was so much less sewage before the sewers got so big.
