Trump rips Pelosi and Schumer after meeting: 'Total waste of time'

President Trump slammed Democratic leaders on Wednesday following a meeting at the White House to negotiate an end to the partial government shutdown, calling it a "total waste of time."

"Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time," Trump tweeted minutes after meeting with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

"I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier?" he continued. 

"Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!"

Their position has been that they will not even negotiate actual border security measures until after he reopens the government, and they have told him all along there will be no money for the wall in any event.

At some point, the congressional Republicans and he will begin to believe that.

They don't seem to, really, right now.

But when they do they will not be happy to see the shutdown continue, given more Americans blame Trump and them for it than blame the Democrats, and more Americans oppose the wall than favor it.

I am waiting for a Democrat to respond to some newsie demanding why the Democrats don't give Trump something in order to get the government running with the observation, "We don't negotiate with terrorists.

"We are not going to reward him for holding the government and people of America hostage, forcing this kind of suffering on them, in a childish tantrum to get his way.

"That he is willing to do this only proves how worthless and despicable this president is.

"He is inflicting harm on the government and nation he is supposed to protect."
