Didn't something say it was an AR15?

A civilian version of the M16, it's just the sort of thing people think of when they say "assault rifle", though from what I have read he did not modify it to fire fully automatically.

Seems he did somehow obtain illegal high capacity magazines.

So, ban assault rifles or such magazines or both.

No real need to ban all semi-automatic rifles, let alone pistols.

(Australia bans semi-automatic rifles or magazines with a capacity more than 5 rounds. Or maybe it's 10. Wikipedia sources differ.)

Anyway, he didn't just use that one gun.

Reportedly, he also used a lever action rifle and two shotguns.

Want to ban them, too?

New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern urged to act quickly to ban semi-automatic weapons

This could be right.

Or not.

Gun control advocate Professor Simon Chapman said a similar attack could only occur in Australia if the perpetrator was able to obtain “totally illegal weapons bought off an illegal market.”

“You can only speculate about why this person decided to go over to New Zealand to do what he did, but it is possibly because it was much easier for him to purchase the means to do it,” Chapman said.

Meanwhile, in the madhouse that is the USA.
