The N Y Philharmonic in Russia

In 1959, Leonard Bernstein and the orchestra toured Russia to packed houses and wild applause, part of the new cultural exchange program.

He and his wife visited Pasternak at Peredelkino, and the writer attended the final Moscow performance the next day.

Our authors say the New Yorkers wowed audiences with Stravinsky, never before performed in the Soviet Union.

Reading The Zhivago Affair.
