The American right does its best to convince white Americans that the GOP is the party white people are and should be at home in because the Democrats have become a party of nonwhites who are not their friends.
And enough uneducated whites have come to believe that to put a majority of US whites into the R column 54% to 39%, most of them by far quite against their class interest.
But it is not true.
The Changing Composition of the Political Parties
While their racial composition is the demographic trait most different about them, both parties are majority white by a considerable margin.
The set of all voters is 70% white as of 2016.
The GOP is 76% white while the Dems are 57% white.
As regards education and age breakdowns, the two parties are more similar than that.
