Why did Trump poke the bear?

Sure, his shtick about the knee was aimed at whites who resent and even fear the ubiquitous race-baiting propaganda of eternal and immutable black victimhood - and equally eternal and immutable white guilt.

But so is the reaction he intentionally provoked in the Democratic media.

See this morning's furious barrages of that same propaganda at CNN and MSNBC.

Not that his own resentment isn't palpable and sincere, but The Duce is adept at welcoming the hatred and using it for political advantage.

Of course.

As much as anything else, that is why he is in The White House.

To appreciate the venom, the menace, and the unfounded character of much propaganda against whites you have to think of the anti-Semitism found everywhere in Europe, but of special intensity in central and eastern Europe, before the Second World War.

(Recall, for only one example, the conspiracy theory for long circulated by the Nation of Islam and echoed by many others, that AIDS was an invention of white people to kill large numbers of Africans and other blacks.)

And the old joke that ends with two questions.

"Why the bicyclists?"

"Why the Jews?"
