Too old, too white, and rhetorically and ideologically way too far left.

But his actual agenda isn't anywhere near that far left.

A politician who publicly embraced capitalism and explained the agenda is about making it work better for everyone rather than only for capitalists would scare the plutes less, and less easily fall prey to scare tactics and what is basically red baiting.
