Fauci gently declines to encourage students to go back to school in the fall, given the realistic assumption there will be no vaccine at that time

At colleges or at high schools.

Chairman Lamar Alexander's first question was what Fauci would say to provide such encouragement.

A Democratic senator Murray follows up with an invitation to Fauci to contradict the president's idea of a quick return to normalcy.

He replied by emphasizing caution and compliance with the CDC rules for rollback that were endorsed by Trump and the White House some while ago.

And pointed out the need to be willing to stop and even reverse the rollback if things go awry, as indicated by necessary testing.

He did not point out that Trump is ignoring those guidelines whenever he urges all but immediate rollback.
