In a recent Glades episode, the story centered on a group of Civil War re-enactors whose thing was to stage The Battle of Biloxi.
No idea why a bunch of local Floridians would choose that.
But in this little crime story, they do.
Among them is a beautiful blonde disguised as a man, a Confederate private.
When first exposed and during several police interviews thereafter she declaimed her feminist pride in the patriotism and heroism of the women forced to serve our country disguised as men in that war.
Where does one begin?
We are being asked to respect the patriotism and service to our country of Confederate soldiers who served The Confederate States of America in a war against our country, The United States of America.
To respect the lunacy of a handful of crazy women, most of them no doubt lesbians, prostitutes, or both, who chose to disguise themselves as men in order to do that.
Including those who did that to save slavery for the Old South.
And to feel guilty - especially us men - that they were "forced to fight" in male disguise.
Just as we have been ordered to feel guilty about women who, in the past, injured or killed themselves attempting to kill the children inside them with coathangers.
Forced to do that, they were.
Yes, indeed.
On the other hand, she turned out to be the killer, so I suppose that's all OK, after all.
