Detroit, a bumper-sticker come true


“Socialism is fine until you run out of other people’s money,” says the notorious conservative complaint.

Or until the people with the money move out while others in search of the free lunch move in.

You can’t run a government given to extensive redistribution unless there are people or enterprises around with something to redistribute.

The people running Detroit did not, and perhaps could not, ensure that in the face of an urban manufacturing sector in precipitous decline.
