Catching you up

Female police officer killed in second Paris shooting

Looks like the same gunmen who did the Charlie Hebdo murders did this and shot the street cleaner, and then attempted to rob a gas station.

Not entirely sure from the stories I have seen, but it looks like the French forces of order are handling this far more sensibly than American authorities handled the Boston Bombers.

Recall the Americans reacted with numbers more suitable to the invasion of Normandy than to a police manhunt.

The French seem not to have gone off the deep end.

Or maybe they have.

French manhunt

Anyway, note that the French attack avenges what Muslims insist is a genuine religious affront.

Not so the Boston Bombers, for whom Muslim identity rather than Muslim religion seems to have been the motivating factor.

They purported to avenge the American participation in an ongoing war against Muslims, if not a global war then anyway one very widespread.

Just the sort of thing sensible political leaders don't want to provoke more of by allowing fools to talk them into publicly urging that we are or ought to be "at war with Islam" or "at war with the world's Muslims."

Besides provoking a lot more terrorism, globally, that might actually provoke actual wars between Muslim states and others, or at least put an end to cooperation with others by Muslim governments in the struggle against Muslim terrorism.

Careful what you wish for, friends.

Update,  1935 hrs EST.

Well, it looks like the French have now gone all in, their manhunt now as extravagant as ours for the Boston Bombers.

Pat Buchanan thought the excess in Boston sent a message of fear.

But perhaps the Boston effort and this one are supposed to send much the same message as the killing of OBL.

No escape.
