Even Obama might not want to resist the temptation at last to confront Russia militarily and directly in the area, given how much so many among the American and even European elites seem to have been itching for a fight since Putin's actions on Ukraine.
Does the obsolete NATO treaty commit the US to war in case a member state stupidly provokes attack by another member state by shooting down its planes, Russia in particular?
Today's American cold warriors, who after all include Obama and everyone in his administration, will find it hard to resist, if push comes to shove.
The Russians are a little pissed off.
