Trump yesterday firmly and clearly insisted on deportation for 12 or so million illegals in the US, and this makes him a hero in the eyes of GOP and GOP-leaning independent voters.
Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said to remove the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the Untied States, he would have a “deportation force.”
My own view is that this is nuts.
Clearly, the inhumanity of the thing cuts no ice with those voters, but also it seems none of those morons has given a thought to how much deportation would cost to carry out on such a scale, or to how much the loss of all the affected folks who have been hard at work for many years would cost the economy.
But I agree we should have an immediate, indefinite moratorium on all low-wage immigration and amend the constitution to confer birthright citizenship only on children either (a) born in the US to parents both of whom are resident aliens, at least one of whom becomes a citizen before the child is 18 or (b) who have at least one parent who is a citizen at the time of the child's birth.
We should build the fence.
We should amnesty all but only illegals who are already here, have been here at least 5 years, and have depended on public assistance for no more than 3 months in all that time, except for those with criminal records here or elsewhere.
We should not amnesty children thrown across the border, much less allow in their parents for the sake of a family unity they have personally destroyed.
Amnesty should be withdrawn from any who subsequently commit felonies and deportation for them should be automatic upon completion of their sentences.
