Sure, it is hypocritical for Republicans to insist on the social necessity of people living by traditional sexual morality while secretly living a lifestyle not at all moral by that same standard.
But it is more outrageously hypocritical, I think, for Democrats who champion the values of the sexual revolution to out and condemn Republicans whose conduct is perfectly well in keeping with that morality.
Particularly when one bashes a Republican for sins that were a scandal for which he made public apologies and amends eight years ago.
And that is what is happening here.
The scandal Edwards makes so much of is not that Vitter is a hypocrite but that, more than eight years ago, he made use of prostitutes.
And that makes Edward not just a hypocrite but a filthy son of a bitch.
And he seems to be a nasty little militarist, anyway.
