'Dangerous' Trump: 50 key Republicans sign letter warning against candidate
Many longtime Republican foreign policy and national security officials have issued their most vociferous repudiation of Donald Trump to date, saying the GOP presidential nominee, if elected, “would be the most reckless president in American history”.
An open letter released on Monday and signed by 50 fixtures from decades of Republican Pentagons, state departments, White Houses and treasuries rejected Trump’s “alarming ignorance” of basic international affairs, his competence at understanding US national interests and his temperament.
“From a foreign policy perspective, Donald Trump is not qualified to be president and commander-in-chief,” states the letter, which was first reported by the New York Times and includes several top aides from the George W Bush administration.
“Indeed, we are convinced that he would be a dangerous president and would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being.”
The former officials, many of whom are likely candidates to staff any Republican president’s administration, added that Trump “lacks the character, values, and experience” to hold the highest office in the land.

Republican Susan Collins says she won't vote for Donald Trump in scathing op-ed
Susan Collins announced she would not vote for Donald Trump on Monday, joining the few other Republican senators to repudiate the party’s nominee for president.
“I will not be voting for Donald Trump for president,” the senator from Maine wrote in an op-ed published in the Washington Post on Monday night.
“This is not a decision I make lightly, for I am a lifelong Republican. But Donald Trump does not reflect historical Republican values nor the inclusive approach to governing that is critical to healing the divisions in our country.”
Senators Lindsey Graham, Mark Kirk, Ben Sasse, Dean Heller and Jeff Flake have all said they would either not vote for Trump or adamantly voiced their resistance to the notion.
Senator Ted Cruz, who was defeated by Trump in the primary race, urged conservatives to “vote your conscience” at the Republican national convention.
But Susan Collins reiterates she's not voting for Clinton
Sen. Susan Collins announced Monday in a Washington Post op-ed that she can’t support Donald Trump for president.
On Tuesday, the Maine Republican said she won’t be voting for Hillary Clinton either.
Collins told CNN’s Jamie Gangel that she “truly” doesn’t know who she’ll vote for in November and left open the possibility of writing in a candidate’s name on her ballot, something she said she has never done before.
