And the two-state solution is still the official policy of the US and of the White House, though Israelis would be fools to accept it in the face of the rising, rather than falling, enmity toward them in the surrounding Muslim states.

Still, Hagel's position is better in that it involves a lesser degree of committment to US support for Israel come what may, and no matter what they do.
