When laws first began to be passed requiring convicted sex
criminals’ names and addresses be made public when they left prison and settled
somewhere, liberals complained it was in a violation of the fictitious but much
to be cherished (IMHO) constitutional right to privacy.
They complained it exposed the offenders to vigilantism,
public persecution, and various other sorts of cruelty at the hands of
frightened, angry, or simply vicious neighbors.
They complained the very idea of doing such a thing was vengeful,
spiteful, and mean.
They were right, on the whole, despite the mendacious argument
that parents and ordinary folk needed to be alerted so they could be wary and
take lawful and appropriate measures of self-protection.
Law enforcement officials need to know these things, but not
the neighbors.
The real point of these laws was quite transparent: to
further punish the offenders with fear, shame, opprobrium, and very real
danger.
Anyway, it appears the liberals have gotten over their
qualms.
They have found a new way to personally attack a population
at whom they are, right now, especially angry.
And you never want to make a liberal – any more than a conservative
– especially angry.
I see a tsunami coming.
Or at least a wave.
People who personally and legally own guns or have a license
to carry one are in for a bad time.
Sort of reminds you of how Republican lawmakers seek to
punish, persecute, and harass women not only for getting abortions but for even
seeking them, doesn’t it?
People who get worked up about politics are among the worst,
are they not?
They don’t seem very different, sometimes, from the bullies
and thugs society used to permit to persecute gays or harass black people.
Note that those harmed by this liberal assault on privacy include law enforcement people, women in hiding from dangerous men, and people indirectly identified to prospective robbers, burglars, and home invaders as unarmed.
"Collateral damage," I guess.
