Revealing choice of headline at RCP

RCP from the first day has been a site with a mission to normalize and mainstream the craziest and most disreputable bullshit produced by the crazies and disreputable monsters of the "conservative movement" and the Republican Party.

It has been a key engine of the right wing noise machine for decades.

Part of the propaganda enabling that mainstreaming has been the use of the phrase, "cultural Marxism," against liberals in particular but also and equally effectively the entire Democratic Party.

If you wondered what the hell that might be, here's a clue from a man the entire right ought to be ashamed to allow to speak for them, Pat Buchanan.

Buchanan: Trump's Warsaw Message Was West Is Being Invaded By Cultural Marxism And Transnationalism

This is Solzhenitsyn. You know, God is not dead.

Without God, what do you got? Who is the author of Western Civilization? What are the ideas that created the West.

And what it is is there is a certain war going on internally if you will, cultural Marxism or secular liberalism, call it what you want, which is rooted in the highest good as simply being democracy, etcetera, etcetera.

And so Trump touched on that and then he went on to the idea that you are being invaded and can you stop the invasion from the South?

And it's a very real question whether Europe has the will and the belief and the conviction to stop the invasion or whether it even cares.

So now we get it, cultural Marxism = secular liberalism.

And the immediate threat of the latter is that white Christian Europe will be invaded and overrun by brown and black, Muslim Africa.

Here is the transcript of Bozo's speech.

Definitely a speech for Paul Ryan for its fiscal conservatism, with a nod toward Mike Pence for its social conservatism, but there's very little in it to justify Pat Buchanan's claim to see so much Christian white nationalism in it.

But context is all, and given the ongoing battles in Europe between the neo-nationalists and the EU, between the racists and anti-Muslims who are actually working to see refugees drown in the Mediterranean rather than make it alive to set foot in Europe and those who have the opposite agenda, it is not unreasonable for Christian white nationalists as well as their opponents to see the speech that way.

Though Beinart is simply lying when, ostensibly and deservedly to attack Trump, he seizes the opportunity to smear both the West and "the West", both the thing and the name, striking a small blow in the war of a very annoying portion of the left to defame the white race, Western history, Western civilization, and Western culture with their "Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Western Civ has got to go!"

Here is his part in this war.

The West is not a geographic term. Poland is further east than Morocco. France is further east than Haiti. Australia is further east than Egypt. Yet Poland, France, and Australia are all considered part of “The West.” Morocco, Haiti, and Egypt are not.

The West is not an ideological or economic term either. India is the world’s largest democracy. Japan is among its most economically advanced nations. No one considers them part of the West.

The West is a racial and religious term.

To be considered Western, a country must be largely Christian (preferably Protestant or Catholic) and largely white.

Where there is ambiguity about a country’s “Westernness,” it’s because there is ambiguity about, or tension between, these two characteristics.

Is Latin America Western? Maybe. Most of its people are Christian, but by U.S. standards, they’re not clearly white.

Are Albania and Bosnia Western? Maybe. By American standards, their people are white. But they are also mostly Muslim.

In fact, and usage concerning the ancient world apart, expressions like "the West" and "the Occident" have always referred to Western Europe and, more broadly, both Western Europe and the settler states that are its progeny.

Roughly, the European terrain of Latin Christianity at its height, but sometimes with an eye exclusively to the portions of that terrain in which the Enlightenment and its values have flourished and throne and altar have both been most thoroughly deposed.

The very facet of the civilization of the Occident that has given rise to the post-nationalist, post-Christian, anti-racist values of the secular liberalism so hated by the Buchananites, in fact.

Or, if you prefer it, there is the conspiracy theory version.

But they still end up reading the Enlightenment, itself, as a war on the West, Western values, Christianity, and the core ideals of Western Civilization.
