The NRSV introduction to it says first Timothy almost certainly was not written by Paul.

The NAB introduction gives more information about the question of authorship of both letters to Timothy and the letter to Titus - the three Pastoral Epistles - , reporting that most scholars since the 19th Century reject Paul's authorship of any of them.

My editions of the NLT and NIV lack editorial or scholarly commentary.

At 1 Timothy 1 slave traders (v 10) are listed with other wicked folk.

The subordination of women is again commanded at 2:9-15.

Qualifications for the job of bishop include being married only once (3:2) and being a good father (3:4, 5).

Likewise deacons (3:12).

He admonishes Timothy to avoid various bad sorts who will appear in the last days, 2 Timothy 3:1-5.
