And both of the last two popes.
Or was it three?
The entire left has problems with this man, even beyond his
being an old white guy.
He is a conservative in every way that matters to anybody
and has been criticized for his conduct during the Argentine “dirty war.”
Recall that what the left calls a “dirty war” is a civil struggle in
which the authorities use against communist rebels of one stripe or another
methods not quite as horrible as those used by the rebels, themselves.
On this sort of thing there is no noticeable daylight
between radicals, the professional left, and the general run of liberal
opinion.
Think of all the liberal kids with Che on their t-shirts at
home and dorm walls at school.
You don’t have to be Pinochet.
It’s enough to be Fujimori.
Recall how they hammered the last pope with his childhood
membership in the Hitler Youth?
This fellow is said by some to have supported the Argentine military
during his responsible, adult years.
On the other hand, it looks like he actually worked to save
people from the regime and did not endorse it; but he did not condemn the regime, publicly.
