China fills the big box stores at which they and the entire working class of America buy nearly everything a person can carry, and much that you can't.
Tariffs and protectionism would significantly hurt all those people and benefit in net only the few, if any, who got better jobs out of it.
But we are already at full employment.
So, good times for robots?
"The going was good" for the unionized aristocracy of American workers for a few decades after the Second World War, when the economies of the rest of the world had been destroyed and American unions controlled the fates of several major industries that, facing no foreign competition, were on a global export romp.
Nobody's bringing back those good old days.
