Tom Rob Smith’s novel Agent 6 describes extraordinarily
vindictive and unconscionable FBI harassment under COINTELPRO of a famous American
black singer popular mostly in the 30’s and 40’s.
Shameful, gratuitous cruelty, though it could supply a basis
only for a transparently false “moral equivalence,” even between the “secret
police” of the two powers, the USA and the USSR.
By the way, the trilogy is very good.
Interesting it’s written by a fellow far too young for the Cold
War to be a personal memory.
