Even now, superstition dominates thought about war

Lots of left-ish soi-disant “public intellectuals” really like this just war stuff.

But this piece misreads just war theory, which most certainly does not require that each individual offensive act in war be justifiable by appeal to self-defense.

Hence it is certainly not a sin against just war theory if the leaked justice department memo doesn’t, either.

And how many Americans would agree, if asked, that our wars have to be conducted according to moral rules developed by Saints Ambrose, Augustine, and Thomas Aquinas?

Pshaw.

By the way, the left, usually so determined to be secular and even anti-Christian, seems to have adopted Catholic moral theory in connection with American wars only to be able to beat up America for chronic and acute non-compliance with its strictures.

Hate America First!
